India  companies vs MNCs preferred by Indians


It's time for Indian companies to do some effective employer branding as talent in the country continues to crave for jobs in multinational companies (MNC). This also makes Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make In India' push seem like a distant dream.

In a latest TimesJobs survey, nearly 64% India Inc employees said they would prefer to work with international companies over Indian companies.

The 'Indian Vs MNC Workplace Survey 2016' received responses from more than 1,000 employees from across sectors and geographies, of which 71% represented Indian organizations while 29% were from multinational companies.

Interestingly, even though the representation was more from Indian companies, the preference for international companies was higher. In fact, close to 60% employees working with Indian organizations said international organizations are better while nearly 80% employees from international companies said theirs is a better place to work.

Nearly 80% employees in automobile and banking sectors and 75% employees in IT, telecom and internet/dotcom sectors said international companies would be better places to work.

However, around 80% employees from the construction sector voted for Indian companies as preferred place to work, highlights the TimesJobs.com survey.

Almost 90% junior/entry-level professionals and 80% senior-level professionals said international companies are better. Opinion of middle-level staff was divided with 50% preferring international companies and 50% choosing Indian companies as better places to work.

The preference for international companies was higher across genders, with 80% female employees and 68% male employees voting in favor.

What makes international companies better? 

According to nearly 33% of the surveyed employees, international organizations score on better pay packages and perks. About 65% employees of these organizations even said they are happy about the way they are being paid while only 33% employees of Indian organizations said they are satisfied with their compensation.

Nearly 22% employees from international companies said their organizations offered better opportunities for career growth and development while 19% are impressed with the work environment and culture, reveals the survey.
